The Fort Report: July 16th – 31st

Hey Everyone!

July is already off to a great start and it’s just getting better! There are some great film programs happening around town so get out there and see some flicks!!!

  • The Varsity Theater
      • Film Noir classic Double Indemnity screens July 19th and 20th
      • The erotic classic Belle de Jour starring Catherine Deneuve plays Tuesday July 21st at 7:30pm as part of the Girls of Summer film series.

      • The Girls of Summer Tuesday night series continues with John Cassavettes’ Beat inspired indie Shadows screening July 28th at 7:30pm

    • Found footage horror film the Gallows screens through the week.
    • Ben Kingsley and Ryan Reynolds star in the Sci-Fi drama Self/Less playing through the week.
  • Northwest Film Forum
      • Matt Lynch from Scarecrow Video brings one of his favorites to the Forum Polk County Pot Plane (aka In Hot Pursuit). This movie is genuine 70’s exploitation at its finest. The film screens July 22nd at 9pm.

      • On July 26th at 4pm, the Forum presents the Elliott Smith documentary Heaven Adores You.
      • The 1980’s romance-turned-apocalypse cult classic Miracle Mile With writer/director Steve DeJarnett in attendance, this is a one night chance to get a personal look into one of the most unique American indie films ever made. This screen Friday July 31st at 7:30pm with a Happy Hour/DVD signing at 6:30pm.

  • The Central Cinema
    • Breakfast at Tiffany’s and La Femme Nikita screen from now until July 21st
    • Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory and Pulp Fiction run from July 24th – 29th
    • This month’s showing of the Room is Thursday the 30th at 8pm
    • The Muppet Movie and the Matrix open July 31st.
  • The Grand Illusion
      • The animal horror film about 7ft tall mutant wasps that terrorize a rural dinner party is the amazing Stung which screens July 17th – 23rd.

      • From Korea comes another amazing cop action drama A Hard Day which runs from July 24th – 30th! This is a great film with tons of suspense! It’s fucking RAD!

    • A man (George Kennedy) whose daughter was kidnapped by Bigfoot rescues topless teens from alien sacrifice in the woods in Demonwarp presented by VHS UBERALLES! This gem plays Saturday the 25th at 9pm. Only $2 at the door!
    • Seattle experimental cinema group ExCinema meets on July 28th at 7pm for their program The Clearing .
  • Sundance Cinemas
      • The Amy Winehouse documentary Amy screens this week.

  • SiFF Egyptian
    • Back to the Future screens July 17th and the monthly Rocky Horror Picture Show screens on the 18th, both midnight showings.
    • The Studio Ghibli latest When Marnie Was There plays through the week.
  • Guild 45th: Sir Ian McKellan plays the legendary Sherlock Holmes in Holmes. In addition, the World War II drama Testament of Youth plays through the week
  • Seven Gables: Festival favorite Me and Earl and the Dying Girl plays through the week


Crest Cinema Center: Entourage, Furious 7, Home, I’ll See You in My Dreams, Poltergeist, The 100 year old Man Who Climbed Out a Window and Disappeared, and The WolfPack all play through the week.
